Host Your Own Speed Puzzling Contest!

Do you want to bring a speed puzzling contest to your area?  Host your own!  We offer 2 options: a "Mini Tourney" package, or à la carte.
PLANNING STEPS:
  1. Check out the USA Jigsaw Puzzle Association's resources here.
  2. Choose your target audience: adults (16+), youth (under 16), families, or all.
  3. Choose a date and time (at least 2 months in advance).
  4. Choose a venue (see the ideal venue specs to the right).
  5. Choose one or more divisions and piece counts.
  6. Decide on your registration process and price(s).
PREPARING STEPS:
  1. Reserve your venue.
  2. Create a flyer and begin marketing your contest.
  3. At least 30 days in advance, buy your Speed Puzzling Contest Host Kit(s) below.
  4. Send out reminders with rules and logistics to each contestant.
  5. Gather volunteer helpers to help judge the contest.  We recommend 1 volunteer for every 5 tables.
IDEAL VENUE SPECS:
  • free or low cost
  • great lighting
  • safe location with free parking
  • plenty of 6-foot rectangular tables
  • plenty of chairs
  • sound system (microphone & speakers)--optional if a smaller venue
  • projector/screen (optional)
HOSTING STEPS:
  • Set up adequate tables (all the same size) and chairs.
  • Check in the competitors and ensure everyone is present.
  • Give brief rules and instructions (Don't open the bag, don't start before we say GO, announce time limit, flag us down when you're about to finish, etc.).
  • Answer any questions.
  • Count down "3, 2, 1, GO!"
  • With help from volunteers, watch the racers complete their puzzles.  Record each finish time.
  • If time expires before someone finishes, help them count the unattached pieces & rank them accordingly.
SpeedPuzzling.com Mini Tourney
A SpeedPuzzling.com Mini Tourney is a scaled-down version of our State and Regional Championship events:
  • It still has all 3 contests (Solo, Pair, and then Team)
  • Participation in all 3 contests is encouraged
  • The puzzles are smaller piece counts to allow for shorter time limits
  • The whole event can be held in 4 hours (instead of 8)
  • Host with as little as 1000 sq ft and as few as 8 tables
